History

I have always loved working with my hands.  I started at an early age
creating beautiful drawings which my grandmother dutifully displayed on her
fridge.  As I got older, I dabbled in crochet, knitting, cross-stitching, and the
list grew longer.  Then 10 years ago, I started playing with polymer clay.  I
am not sure exactly when the transition occurred, but I moved on to making
jewelry with crystals, glass beads and semi-precious stones.

As with most hobbies, my jewelry making started out with buying a few
supplies.  I began with a couple of tools, some wire and a few packs of
beads bought at the local craft store.  A few thousand beads later, I had to
consider selling some of my work to support my habit.   To sell my crafts, I
had to have a business name.  Being the humble person I am, I named the
business after me.   In 1998, debbie's by design was born.
Current Events

I am located out in the wilds of Central Pennsylvania, better known around
here as Perry County.  I personally do not have any old cars sitting in my
front yard as lawn ornaments, but I can't say anything about the neighbors.
In the winter, when snow is on the ground and snowplows can't be found,
you will find me working diligently on my next beading masterpiece.

The majority of my work these days is making
custom jewelry for belly
dancers.  These wonderful ladies buy beautiful costumes, but cannot always
find jewelry that works well with their new outfit.  I am able to find beads,
crystals or wires that match or compliment the colors of the costume.

A few questions on size, length, etc and my mind goes to work.   So far, all
of my customers
have been happy with the results.

In the fall, I usually vend at several local arts and craft shows in the
Harrisburg/Camp Hill area.  Throughout the rest of the year I vend at several
belly dancing workshops.

I have travelled northwest to Ebensburg, PA; south to Baltimore and
Frederick, MD; and this spring did my first show in Somerset, NJ.

My latest undertaking
s includes vending at BellyPalooza in Baltimore, MD
and
participating in an "open house"  with a vendor that sell costumes and
other belly dancing accessories.  Our next  event  is planned for
August  in
Manheim, PA.  Please see my
events page for more information.

..And the future?

My plans are to continue to learn and grow as I gain experience.   I will
continue to work on this website as often as I can, but my main focus will
always be the jewelry.   I may not know what the future may bring, so I guess
I will just work on the present and let the future take care of itself.
Thank you for coming along for the ride.
P.S. Custom Work
My custom work is not limited by style, age or price.   I design jewelry for any
occasion (bridal, party, gifts, etc).
At the present, orders for custom work will
not be available via this website.   If you wish to inquire about custom work,
please
contact me.
